Winter in every colour
Excursion destinations for every taste
Who says that winter always has to be white? We offer you much more than "just" skiing holidays with children in Upper Austria. The whole family can not only slide down the slopes around the Sommerhof, but also directly into the salt mine - or into a warm thermal pool! Fancy a change from skiing fun? Here are our tips.
White trails
On skis, wrapped up in thick winter boots or on a ringing horse-drawn sleigh: The snowy paths around Gosau and on the Dachstein mountains can be explored in many different ways. Wrap up warm and off you go!
A snow go!
In winter there is sometimes nothing better than shaking off the snow and retreating into the warmth. Maybe in a steaming pool? The Salzkammergut has lots of mineral-rich water and therefore many thermal baths. Whether Grimming Therme, Narzissenbad or Eurotherme Bad Ischl, there are many oases of well-being close to the Sommerhof. If you prefer to look for a fun pool for families, then head to Therme Amadé.
Family adventure in the world’s oldest salt mine
The Salzwelten Hallstatt are very fascinating. It is the oldest salt mine world wide and on top the skywalk offers best views. It is open daily also in winter times!
Hiking by the lake
Winter hiking is wonderful, but often not so easy with children. The Bürglstein circular hiking trail in Strobl is family-friendly and certainly enchanting even in winter. It leads directly along the shore of Lake Wolfgang, past boathouses, mountains and the idyllic scenery of the Salzkammergut.
Also we love to walk along Altausseer See or on top of the mountain in Gosau or Postalm.
Eat like an emperor
Snacking in winter? That's all part of it! In Bad Ischl, the k. u. k. Zuckerbäckerei Zauner invites you into the cosy interior of the confectionery. The finest pastries are served there while hot drinks are sipped. For even more imperial feeling, visit Sisi's summer residence.
On the trail of Mozart
The birthplace of the famous child prodigy Mozart is a must-see! It is not only the Mozart museums and his musical heritage that impress, but also many of the other sights including the Hohensalzburg fortress, Schloss Mirabell or the Haus der Natur.
